About The Event
We are choosing to support Tostan, a fantastic organization that has the aim of empowering local African communities, through inspiring positive social and community change that recognizes the importance of leadership, integrity, and human rights. Tostan aims more specifically to fight violence against girls and women, and to grant them equal status in society. They have achieved notable success in the advancement of women’s rights, exemplified by their success in facilitating over 20,000 women reaching leadership roles in their communities and the voluntary abandonment of female genital mutilation in over 8000 West-African villages.
Event structure:
6pm: relaxed start with live Blues/Jazz music and drinks reception
7pm: presentation on Tostan-Orchid Project partnership by Julia Lalla-Maharajh, representative of Tostan
7:30pm: buffet & drinks
8:30pm: Ballroom Dance Society showcase and tutorial
9-11pm: dancing, networking, and enjoying the rest of the night
